A senior official at the Attorney General’s (AG) Department told Lanka News Web that President Mahinda Rajapaksa had taken the AG’s Department under his purview to receive the necessary legal aid to make constitutional amendments as he pleases and to get some charge framed against General Sarath Fonseka in order to arrest him.

After the President took over the AG’s Department that was under the purview of the Justice Ministry for the past few decades, the Department under a Presidential directive filed three cases against parliamentarian General Fonseka. The cases have been filed under  Emergency Regulations, Official Secrets Act and Public Property Ordinance.

When the Department field a case against General Fonseka’s statement on White flags, the Additional Solicitor General who appeared on behalf of the AG told court that General Fonseka could not be granted bail without the AG’s approval.
