Raising a question of privilege UNP Parliamentarian for Kurunegala District Dayasiri Jayasekera asked the Health Minister yesterday (18th) to reveal to Parliament the names of the MPs who are alleged to have taken large stocks of medicine with them from the medical centre in Parliament before the dissolution of the former Parliament. The media had reported that Parliamentarians had taken away medicine worth hundreds of thousands of rupees from the centre. Mr. Jayasekera said the people should know whether the story carried by the press was true or not and called upon the government to reveal the names of the Parliamentarians.

“Please reveal the names of the Parliamentarians who have taken away large quantities of medicine from the centre when people in the country are suffering without medicine. This report has tarnished the image of the MPs and by presenting the list of the MPs it would be possible to safeguard the privileges of the MPs. I would ask the Health Minister not only to give the names of those who took the medicine but also the quantities as well as the types of medicines they have taken away,” said Mr. Jayasekera.

I would think that they would be able to trace these stolen medicines. They might not find the parties guilty of taking the medicines but they can at least take them off the market. I would be worried that the medicines weren't kept in a clean environment.
