The General Secretary of Sri Lanka's main opposition , Tissa Attanayake has in writing responded to the allegations leveled by UNP Puttalam District parliamentarian Palitha Range Bandara.

Attanayake has in his letter to Range Bandara denied that he had interfered to delay taking disciplinary action against his alleged assailants including the UNP North Western Provincial Councilor, Shantha Abeysekara.

Range Bandara in a letter on Monday (31) accused certain sections of the party for delaying the disciplinary action against his assailants.

According to Attanayake, he had dealt with the issue impartially and had called for a report from the Additional District Manager of the Puttalam District, P. Herath even without being requested to do so.

However, the UNP's Chilaw Manager had not written directly to him but rather to the party leader.

Attanayake had told Range Bandara that he should have raised the issue with the Working Committee instead of going public with it.
