Basil Rajapaksa presents Cabinet papers for Dayaratne’s Ministry

Font size: Decrease font Enlarge font

Senior government ministers have objected to Economic Development Minister Basil Rajapaksa presenting Cabinet papers on behalf of the State Resources and Enterprise Development Ministry, without the knowledge of the subject minister P. Dayaratne.

When Minister Basil Rajapaksa had presented a Cabinet memorandum at the last Cabinet meeting on behalf of the State Resources and Enterprise Development Ministry, Minister Nimal Siripala de Silva had objected saying there is already a line minister to oversee the matter.

Basil had ignored the comment and had presented the Cabinet paper saying it was his personal opinion.

Minister P. Dayaratne had remained silent and the Cabinet paper had been approved by the Cabinet.

Although P. Dayaratne is the minister for State Resources and Enterprise Development, Basil Rajapaksa plays a key role in all its affairs through his trusted confidant, ministry secretary Willie Gamage.
