Minister Lakshman Yapa Abeywardena and his family had taken the luxury room allocated for Indian superstar Amithab Bachchan at the five star hotel, following his announcement that he would not attend the IIFA awards in Sri Lanka.

Meanwhile, hotel sources said that following the last minute cancellations of about 200 Indian film stars, who were initially scheduled to attend the IIFA awards, many ministers are reportedly fighting to check in to the rooms at the five star hotels in Colombo that have now become vacant.

Heads of Hitlon Colombo and Cinnamon Grand have received an endless line of calls in this regard.

The Tourism Ministry has already paid an advance for all the rooms that have now fallen vacant.
