UNP Puttalam district Member of Parliament (MP) Palitha Range Bandara has been asked to appear before the party disciplinary committee this week to make a statement over the attack on him allegedly by a UNP member.

The UNP MP said that he had received a letter from the party asking him to appear before the UNP disciplinary committee on Saturday 12 June after he had complained to the party over the assault on him prior to the recent General Elections.

Bandara has accused UNP member Shantha Abeysekara of being involved in the attack on him which resulted in the MP being hospitalized with serious injuries. The MP subsequently slammed the UNP General Secretary Tissa Attanayaka over his failure to take disciplinary action against Abeysekara.

The UNP MP has now taken a back seat from UNP events and meetings and has even threatened to quit the party or retire from politics. Bandara said he is ready to meet Attanayaka face to face to discuss his concerns.
