Mr. Dissanayake, making a special statement in Parliament on the CEPA agreement posed several questions in Parliament today regarding CEPA agreement to be signed with India.
The questions he asked were:
1. Has the government taken a decision to sign the CEPA agreement?
2. How many goods are exempted from tax by CEPA agreement and what are they?
3. What are the service areas whose exchange barriers are to be removed by the agreement?
4. What are the reasons for the government to change the standpoint it took in 2006 and 2007 regarding CEPA?
5. Are there intentions of signing such agreements with other countries except India?
Mr. Dissanayake said he expected the Minister of Trade and Consumer Affairs to apprise the Parliament regarding the questions he had raised and called upon all Members of Parliament to be cautious regarding CEPA which is a crucial agreement regarding the sovereignty and economic development of the country.
