UNP Is Not For CEPA – Kabir Hashim

The UNP will never agree to the CEPA agreement which brings adverse influence and results to the country says UNP Parliamentarian for Kegalle District Kabir Hashim.

 Speaking at a press conference held at the office of the Leader of the Opposition yesterday (9th) Mr. Hashim said if there is an attempt to sign such an agreement the government should allow a broad dialogue regarding it in the country and charged that the government has not taken any measures to apprise the masses regarding the CEPA  agreement.

He said his party is perplexed at the attitude of the government to sign with India such an unfavourable agreement to the country without discussions with any other party. Mr. Hashim said an agreement with a powerful country like India should be signed in a way advantageous to our country. However, CEPA is not so he pointed out adding the whole agreement would be favourable to India not to Sri Lanka.

Mr. Hashim pointed out that entering into such agreements is contrary to ‘Mahinda Chinthanaya.’
