Dinesh being blocked into supporting constitutional amendments by showing alleged corruption charges against him
Sources from Temple Trees say that Defence Secretary Gotabhaya Rajapaksa has managed to get Minister Dinesh Gunawradena and his party, MEP, to support the proposed constitutional amendments including the extension of the term of office of the Executive President by bringing forth alleged corruption charges against him. These alleged corruption charges have taken place during Dinesh’a tenure as Urban Development Minister.
The CID had recently commenced investigations following a directive by Defence Secretary Gotabhaya Rajapaksa into the handing over of
several low lying lands belonging to the government to one of his lady friends in an illegal manner and several fraudulent activities that had taken place at the REEL Company during Dinesh’s tenure as Urban Development Minister.
Director General of the Media Center for National Security, Lakshman Hulugalle had taken steps to release such information to the media.
It is learnt that Minister Dinesh Gunawradena had requested Minister Basil Rajapaksa to help him saying the allegations were being leveled against him in a bid to tarnish his image.
However, the Defence Secretary has agreed to drop the charges and the investigations if the MEP agrees to support the proposed constitutional amendments.
Therefore, Minister Dinesh Gunawardena has agreed that the MEP would support the proposed constitutional amendments including the amendment to remove the limit imposed on the term of office held by the Executive President.
