Householders need not provide information on inmates to police

The Government today announced in Parliament that it is relaxing several emergency regulations including ones that required householders to give information about their inmates.

The regulations which gives powers to Security Forces personnel to enter private properties for search operations will also be relaxed. 

 

External Affairs Minister G.L.Peiris told Parliament such steps were necessary to curb terrorist activities but they were no longer necessary. 

 

However the security forces would continue to enjoy police powers to deal with ongoing investigations into terrorist activities.
