Centre okays TN request on Parvathi Ammal
NEW DELHI: Heeding to the Tamil Government’s special request, the Centre is understood to have allowed conditional access for the treatment of Parvathi Ammal, 80-year old mother of slain LTTE chief V Prabhakaran, on humanitarian grounds.
The Home Ministry’s decision, yet to be conveyed formally, comes in response to Tamil Nadu government’s request wherein it referred to the Madras High Court direction to consider Parvathi’s plea for allowing her to be treated at Tiruchy. The Home Ministry is expected to give a formal go ahead to the state government soon, senior home ministry officials said.
“But it would be based on certain conditions. For example, she should not be allowed to move elsewhere apart from the place where she would be admitted for treatment. Moreover, the hospital for her treatment would be decided by the Tamil Nadu government,” said sources adding that the conditional access is being granted after factoring in apparent concerns.
Deputy Chief Minister M K Stalin on Monday had apprised the state assembly of writing a letter to the Centre seeking permission for Parvathi’s conditional treatment in Tamil Nadu.
