Gen. Sarath Fonseka has been named a suspect in a case in connection with a controversial interview he has given to 'The Sunday Leader' newspaper.

Allowing a request by the CID, Colombo Fort chief magistrate Champa Janaki Jayaratne also issued notice on Gen. Fonseka to appear before the court on May 12.

Taking up the case today (May 05), the magistrate directed the Army commander to produce the General before the court on that day.

In his interview with the newspaper, Gen. Fonseka had claimed that defence secretary Gotabhaya Rajapaksa had ordered the killing of LTTE members who had surrendered with white flags.

The court on two previous occasions rejected requests by the CID to name the General as a suspect in the case.
