General’ banned during National war hero week

A very reliable source states that a top person in the government has pressurized editors of newspapers not to publish any news regarding Gen. Sarath Fonseka, specially during the ‘National Heroes’ Week that commenced yesterday (12th).


A chief editor of a national newspaper, who preferred to remain anonymous, said he was instructed by telephone not to publish any news regarding Gen. Fonseka during the ‘National Heroes’ week.’ This telephone call has originated from the office of a senior official of the government whose name is Rajapakse and the directive had been given in a very friendly way said the editor.
 
The editor of the national newspaper said  that the person who gave the orders in a very friendly manner had said the editors should not publish any news or articles that would be favourable to Gen. Fonseka and those media institutions that do not abide by the directive might not get government advertisements in the future.
